Recumbent bikes are a great way to start out with a conditioning program - less stress on body parts and tons of lower back (lumbar) support.
I'd encourage you to use this if you're just starting back getting fit after a long lay off.
A recumbent bike is great for:
* cardiovascular fitness
* burning fat
* strengthening gluts, hamstrings, quadriceps, hip flexors and calf muscles
The non-weight bearing recumbent bikes let you increase resistance with a variety of programs to choose from.
Recumbent Bike Tips
These bikes are very comfortable and great lower back support. Burns fat and strengthens thigh muscles at the same time!
Grab a set of dumbells and get the upper body moving as well.
I promise that will get the heart rate pumping!
Major hints include:
* have a seat that is easily adjustable
* ensure a wide seat that will support the entire back and not just half of the back
* because of the big weight of these bikes it's essential to have strong transportable wheels
* good quality pedal straps is a must as a little more pressure is placed on the pedals
Bryan's final hint is to get the supplier to install your machine as pinching of wires is extremely common - resulting in poor performance.
Please note that recumbent bikes have varying back angles.
It is very important to test these machines prior to purchasing, due to the importance of supporting the lower back.
