How To Review A Treadmill
Check for the Continuous-Duty rating for the motor's true horsepower - we recommend a rating of at least 1.5 hp and under 5,000 prm.
The optimum belt width is about 40 cm - this gives you adequate walking and running space.
The number 1 cause of treadmill breakdown is vibration - so you need a sturdy frame. Steel frames are generally sturdier than aluminium ones and will provide a more stable machine.
Electronic elevation control - try to purchase or hire a treadmill with a front elevation design, as this is the most popular type, and is less prone to breakdown. Manual elevation treadmills are fine and generally found in the lower cost models.
Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) motor controls are the most recent innovation, and the best for treadmill electronics. A less expensive type of controller is the Solid State Controlled Rectifier (SCR) - these are cheaper for manufacturers to produce, they prematurely wear out motors, are noisy and are most suitable for walking.
The larger the diameter of the rollers, the fewer revolutions it will have to make. This then reduces the wear and tear on the roller and its bearings.
Decking - there are generally 2 types of decks. Wood and medium density fibre-board (MDF). MDF is the best option because it is less likely to crack.
